What the Backorder section is

Backorder is a section of the Karma.Domains report databases where domains are listed that are available for pre-order before they expire and are sold at auction. You can reserve a domain in advance: the service tracks the registration end date, and you get a chance to acquire the domain as it becomes available, without waiting for the auction or participating under special terms depending on the registrar.

The section appears in the main list of report databases and opens via «Backorders» in the navigation. Page title: «Domain Backorders».

Which domains appear in Backorder

The Backorder section shows domains that:

  • Have not expired yet — registration is still active but the end date is approaching, or the registrar has already marked the domain as available for backorder.
  • Can be pre-ordered — the registrar or partner service supports backorder for these domains.
  • Are included in the Karma.Domains database — the service collects and updates data on such domains and provides reports (metrics, history, dates, etc.).

These are not “already sold” or “available” domains, but domains at the stage before expiry or right after, which you can pre-order to improve your chances when they are released.

Why backorder matters

  • Ahead of others — you commit to acquiring the domain before it goes to auction or becomes available for normal registration.
  • Less competition at auction — in some cases pre-order gives priority or simplified participation in bidding.
  • Planning — you see domains with Karma metrics and other indicators in one database and choose in advance which ones to pre-order.

The section combines Karma.Domains analytics (domain quality, traffic, metrics) with decisions about pre-order before expiry and auction.

How to use the section

  1. Open the «Backorders» section in the report databases (e.g. from the main menu or the database list).
  2. The page shows a table of domains with reports: domain, metrics, dates, auction/expiry data, etc.
  3. Use filters and sorting to narrow domains by Karma Score, expiry date, metrics, and other parameters.
  4. Open a domain’s report card for full analytics.
  5. For pre-ordering, follow links or instructions to the partner service or registrar that Karma.Domains works with for backorder.

Important: The hint text in the section UI reads: «Backorder lets you pre-order a domain before it expires and is sold at auction» — a short summary of what the section does. Detailed pre-order terms (price, priority, availability) depend on the registrar and TLD.

  • All domains — combined table: auctions, backorder, and expired domains together; the section column shows Backorder and other types. Compare candidates from different stages in one place or filter to only the sections you need (including backorder only).
  • Auctions — domains already or soon in auction after expiry. Backorder focuses on the stage before or around expiry and pre-order.
  • Expired — domains whose registration has already expired. Backorder emphasises domains you can still pre-order before full expiry and auction.

Thus the Backorder section complements auctions and expired domains and is for users who want to pre-order early using Karma.Domains data for selection. Use this section for a backorder-only view; the mixed list is in All domains.
